Update your instance
XLR8 is early and changes often. New versions come from the main branch of the repository. An update
means pulling the code and deploying the backend first, the web app second.
Update
Section titled “Update”-
Pull the new version and install its dependencies:
Terminal window git pullpnpm install -
Deploy the backend:
Terminal window node tooling/cloud.mjs deploy -
Check the health at
https://happy-otter-123.convex.site/health:"ok": true,"devAuth": false,"local": false. -
Deploy the web app:
Terminal window node tooling/deploy-web.mjsIf you host elsewhere, build and upload as described in Hosting elsewhere.
Why the backend goes first
Section titled “Why the backend goes first”An app that is still open keeps working against a newer backend. The other way round is not guaranteed: a new app may call backend functions that the old backend does not have yet. So the backend is always deployed before the web app when a change touches both.
What open apps do
Section titled “What open apps do”Open tabs and installed apps notice a new version when you return to them, at most every 10 minutes.
- If nothing unsaved is open (no dialog, no text field in use, no changes waiting to be sent), the app reloads by itself.
- Otherwise it shows New version of XLR8 with a Reload button, so you can finish first.
If an old tab tries to load a part of the app that the new deploy removed, it reloads once.
Next steps
Section titled “Next steps”- Changed something in the backend’s environment variables? See the
list of variables. After changing
CLERK_JWT_ISSUER_DOMAIN, deploy the backend again.
